Slænget fra Fyn besøger Wind of Hope in the Arid, i Kenya

Unge kenyanere fra "Wind of Hope in the Arid Youth" maler billeder ud fra HC Andersens eventyr og udstiller deres opfattelse af "Det æventyrlige liv".
Tarup Ungdomsskoles ungdomsgruppe, Slænget, har været i Kenya for at besøge Wind of Hope in the Arid Youth, en ungdomsgruppe fra fattigkvarterene omkring Isiolo i det nordøstlige Kenya. Et projekt der hjælper unge der har mistet familiemedlemmer og som må klare sig selv.

The picture illustrates how the community has been affected by the AIDS scourge.
In the picture we can see the empty mud houses and the cemetery for those people who died of aids and left orphans who now live with the grandparents. It is a problem because it is about the choice of the orphan. The choice between going to the street and searching for food for the grandparents or going to school. This is what really affects us in our community. The youngsters of the age 15-24 are becoming extinct leaving the grandparent generation. |

STRUGGLE CONTINUES

After all the problems we will still bury our persons body with tears on our eyes, but none the less the struggle to fight Aids will continue and the lives of young persons will one day become the true life of young people. |

THE SLEEP IN A COLD BED

The sun is rising so are the young boy´s hopes, always new and gay.
He is a street boy, lonely and despiced by his community.
He sniffs glue to help him feel warm and high.
Maybe, one day he will find real and permenent warmth, comfort and understanding. |

CIRCUMCISION
Inspired by: The Ugly Duckling
In our village the young boys who are ready to be circumcised first have to fight so that the the winners get circumcised using the same knife and this is a dangerous practice because it is a way of transmitting the HIV virus. Personally I ran and was rescued by The Wind of Hope in the Arid and was circumcised by professionals (doctor) at the hospital. |

Dafalla Kamal Zubeir blev udnævnt til HC Andersen repræsentant for de fattige i Kenya, af Borgmester Anker Boye. Dafalla modtog et eksemplar af HC Andersens eventyr på engelsk og en check på 2000 kr, til dækning af hans skolepenge til Polyteknisk læreanstalt i Kenya. |
