Images of the World
Cultural festival August – September 2000
The Images of the World festival took place in August and September 2000 in the cities of Copenhagen, Århus, Odense, Aalborg and several minor cities and towns in Denmark.
Images of the World continued a tradition of “Images” festivals in Denmark. It was the first major international culture festival in the world aiming to promote awareness of the consequences of globalization for world cultures.
Around 800 musicians, dancers, actors, writers, visual artists, journalists, researchers, culture workers, politicians, teachers and others from up to 75 nations made the festival program possible. Through the festival they were given a platform from where they were able to set several agendas focusing on globalization. The messages were as contradictory as globalization itself: from political provocative art against globalization to a tribute to the new hybrid art that evolves as a consequence of globalization.
It is estimated that more than 500,000 people were directly in contact with Images of the World during August and September 2000. This number covers very varied types of contact – from the experience as audience or active participation to the presence at events in city space and visits to festival related websites.
